AUSTIN, TX - The Texas Trucking Association (TXTA) and the Southwest Movers Association (SMA) held their 2025 Trucking and Moving Day at the Texas Capitol on February 26, 2025. The event brought together trucking and moving professionals from across the state to advocate for policies supporting the trucking industry, which employs 1 in 14 Texans. Almost 100 members of TXTA and SMA walked the halls of the Capitol and took meetings with legislators to discuss issues like tort reform, workforce development and the need for transportation funding.
The day also featured the American Trucking Associations' (ATA) Interstate One tractor-trailer, a 53-foot mobile classroom equipped with a truck driving simulator. Lawmakers, staff and the public had the opportunity to test their "big-rig" driving skills in a friendly competition inside the truck and gain insight into the challenges faced by professional drivers daily.
"TXTA and SMA’s Trucking and Moving Day at the Capitol was a powerful demonstration of our industry's vital role in Texas' economy. By bringing our members face-to-face with their lawmakers, we've taken significant steps in advocating for policies that are crucial to our industry. The trucking industry plays an indispensable role in our daily lives, and we need laws on the state and federal level that reflect that, " said TXTA President and CEO John D. Esparza.
Four ATA America's Road Team Captains were also present, including Steve Fields and Rich Frazer from Walmart Transportation, Wayne Ponschke from UPS, and Rodney McNew from Groendyke Transport. These professional drivers manned the Interstate One tractor-trailer and helped people learn about the importance of trucking.
The 2025 Trucking and Moving Day at the Capitol served as a crucial platform for industry professionals to share their personal stories and emphasize the importance of supportive policies for the trucking and moving sectors in Texas.
