AUSTIN—Austin Stashi, an employee of Bruckner's Truck & Equipment in Amarillo, TX, was recently named the 2021 Ed Kyrish Memorial Trade School Scholarship Recipient by the TXTA Foundation. Austin will receive a $5,000 scholarship from the Foundation to attend Amarillo College, where he is studying to become a diesel technician.

“Austin has been an employee of Bruckner’s since 2020 and since joining the team, he has been a dependable employee who requires little supervision,” said Bruckner’s Service Manager Jay Craighead. “In addition to the on-the-job training he will receive from Bruckner’s for young and upcoming prospects, he will be able to further advance his technician training through Amarillo College thanks to the TXTA Foundation. We are excited about the future opportunities this training will provide for Austin.”

Earlier this year, the Foundation awarded the first-ever TXTA Trade School Scholarship to Robert Pena with Admiral Storage & Van. With the assistance provided by the Foundation, Robert was able to obtain his commercial driver license.

The Foundation has awarded nearly $2 million in scholarship funds since inception.

In 2019, TXTA Foundation created a year-round trade school scholarship application process. Current employees or dependents or grandchildren of a TXTA member company are eligible to apply for a trade school scholarship. Through these scholarships, the Foundation aims to cultivate more professional drivers, mechanics and the many other skilled professions associated with the trucking industry.

In addition to the trade school scholarships, TXTA Foundation continues to offer scholarships to students pursuing degrees at schools across the country. Applications for the 2021–2022 cycle will open in spring 2022. Learn more on TXTA’s website
